Hug Zones

Proposed zones

A Hug Zone is a safe place on a border where people from both sides can meet and hug. No zone is open yet: the places on this map are proposals, chosen because a crossing already exists there.

Proposed zone

How a Hug Zone works

  1. A neutral place on the lineA buffer zone, a bridge or a crossing that both sides can reach, agreed with the local authorities.
  2. One partner on each sideA local association on each side invites people, prepares them and walks with them on the day.
  3. Hug first, talk afterPeople meet for a three-second hug. Those who want to can then sit and talk, with an interpreter.
  4. Safe for everyoneTrained hosts, no camera without consent, no names shared. Children only come with our partner associations.

What a zone needs

A host team, interpreters, transport for families who live far from the border, and safety on site. Every zone will be funded by people like you.
